A vitamin is a substance that we need but can’t make, we have to get it from our diet. Vitamin D is produced in our skin under the influence of UV light. It is altered in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D – which is we measure when you have a blood test for vitamin D. The active form is made in the kidneys (calcitriol) and that does the business!
